Law enforcement agencies started an investigation into Quiet Village gang after a member gunned down two El Monte officers at an El Monte motel on June 14, 2022.

“Today’s operation is a culmination of a lot of work,” said Sheriff Robert Luna, who was among those who spoke at the press conference.

After the killing of the El Monte officers, gang members posted stickers, posters and graffiti memorializing and celebrating the action of Flores “in order to advance their gang’s reputation for violence and intimidate others,” court documents show. Authorities named Carrillo, the lead defendant in the case, Mrozek said. The indictment accused him and Rojas of confronting a rival gang member before shooting him multiple times in El Monte on Jan. 13, 2022, then fleeing in a vehicle driven by a man identified as J.P.

“The motive for the Commerce murder was to eliminate the witness to the Jan. 13, 2022 shooting,” Sheriff Luna said. Gang members also sold methamphetamine at the establishment, authorities said. Richard Guzman, 40, was named as a defendant and was accused of selling methamphetamine to a confidential informant in July and August 2022. Another defendant, Vincent Gutierrez, was also accused of selling methamphetamine at the location.
