GM Nick Caserio might net an additional first-rounder in 2024 if he trades down, but can...

When discussing next week's NFL draft, Texans general manager Nick Caserio has largely kept things close to the vest.It was a little more than a year ago that Nick Caserio publicly declared the Texans were “absolutely” open to trading the No. 3 pick in the NFL draft and that they were open for business.

“We’ve received some calls,” Caserio said. “I think our job and responsibility is to listen and not rule out anything, and I think whatever the end result is on Thursday, we’ll be prepared to go either way. If you want to quote me, ‘Are we open for business?’ I’d say we’re open to listening.”Caserio’s comments seem to indicate the Texans are preparing for the possibility their favorite pick is off the board by the time they pick at No. 2.

The Texans could draft quarterback C.J. Stroud No. 2 overall if the Panthers take Young. Stroud visited the Texans two weeks ago and is believed by scouts and draft experts to be the second-best quarterback in this draft class. The Colts at No. 4 and Raiders at No. 7 are the teams most likely looking to trade up. Both have needs at quarterback, and a deal should net the Texans future draft compensation in addition to a trade partner's first-rounder next week.
