EXCLUSIVE: VF talks to the hand. Victor Dorbantu on playing Thing from Wednesday: 'I remember spending a lot of time trying to perfect the middle finger.'
is a monstrous Netflix hit, Dorobantu has become the subject of countless internet searches. “Everybody wants to know how Thing was done behind the scenes,” Dorobantu says. “Everybody wants to know how the VFX works. A lot of people are asking me, ‘Are you real?’”
but Burton’s take on Thing was, of course…different. “When I talked to Victor and we did our Zoom talk, he was giving me some sneak peeks into some of the makeup,” Hart says. “Thing was a very different type of Thing. It was scarred with stitches. It’s a whole different kind of interpretation.” Yeah, in front of my eyes it has a net. It’s pretty comfortable. It’s just a lycra suit. You don’t feel it, and also it protects you from the cold, and we had to shoot in very cold weather in Romania, outside in the forest and by the lake.Yeah, I am 1.9 meters [about 6 foot 3.] And also, I was trying to lose some weight too because I was pretty heavy. I was 100 kilograms back then. [About 220 pounds.
