When you are in the NBA, they are all supposed to be winnable. It is not as if when the Rockets face the Suns on Wednesday, they will declare there is no possible way they can win that night. A week before Sunday’s flop, they beat a Grizzlies team that at the time had the next best record in the NBA.
The Rockets had reason to have that kind of desperate urgency, not just because they arrived in Smoothie King Center with the worst record in the NBA, but because the Pelicans did have great size that the small Rockets’ frontcourt had to battle with extreme energy. The Rockets were able to play with great intensity in the charged atmosphere of home games against the Grizzlies and Lakers. But they have lost their past 10 road games. The latest loss was among the worst in a season full of them.By now, the Rockets would seem to be accustomed to their turnover issues. If they cannot solve them, and so far they have not, they should at least know what to do after they turn the ball over.
"I think it was just really just the carelessness,” Rockets center Christian Wood said. “All the careless turnovers that we had just made it kind of difficult. Then they got out in transition, and we just did a bad job at getting back." “It was just poor decision-making,” Rockets coach Stephen Silas said. “We were coming off pick and roll and looking but throwing it away. Passes where we were trying to hit the wing, but the ball is going out of bounds. We didn't do a very good job.”
Tate returned on Sunday and said he felt 100 percent. Wood struggled with his rhythm and wind. The Rockets’ starting lineup seemed entirely out of sync.
