Didn't we do this already?

Drew Sheneman | The Star-Ledger

A recent study of more than 6 million traffic stops by NJ State Troopers revealed that 46% of the motorists stopped were Black or Hispanic. Didn’t we already do this? Didn’t the State Police spend a decade under federal monitoring for exactly this type of nonsense? Yep. That monitoring ended in 2009 after introducing a raft of reforms to avoid the exact scenario we now find ourselves in.

In 2009, the year the feds stopped the monitoring, 35% of traffic stops were of Blacks and Hispanics, as I mentioned earlier that number is now 46%. Clearly, the reforms didn’t take. That doesn’t mean it’s time to call the feds again. State Attorney General Matt Platkin should be the one to get the house in order, but what does that look like?

U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden heard testimony without a jury before he convicted the former official, Federico Guillermo Klein, and a co-defendant, Steven Cappuccio, of assault charges and other felony offenses stemming from the riot at the U.S. Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters. Klein and Cappuccio were among nine co-defendants charged with crimes related to one of the most violent and pivotal episodes of the Jan. 6 siege: brutal waves of hand-to-hand combat between rioters and police officers in a tunnel leading to a Capitol entrance on the Lower West Terrace.
