A woman and her dog were among those who took to the streets on Sept. 26, 2021, for Síclovía, the YMCA’s biannual event that closes city streets and turns them into a safe place for families and friends to exercise and play.The fall edition of Síclovía returns Sunday, which means streets north of downtown San Antonio will close to create safe spaces for an estimated crowd of as many as 70,000 bicyclists, pedestrians, rollerbladers, runners and skateboarders.

Síclovía, hosted by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio twice a year, is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and encourages all sorts of physical activity among San Antonians in a safe, car-free environment. The route is family-friendly, handicap-accessible and non-competitive. Sunday’s Síclovía will be the 20th event since it first started in 2011.
Beginning at 9 a.m., the Síclovía route will close starting at North Main Avenue near San Antonio College and down Lexington Avenue to Augusta Street. The route will continue on Brooklyn Avenue and North Alamo Street and will stop at Maverick Park on Broadway and Jones Avenue. This year’s Síclovía route will weave its way through the upper half of downtown from Ashby Place to Jones Avenue.
