Left-handed hitter played four positions for Los Angeles plus designated hitter
Beaty, 28, is a left-handed hitter, which the Padres also needed. He hit .270/.363/.402 in 234 plate appearances for the Dodgers in 2021.
Beaty had been designated for assignment by the Dodgers, a move that gave them seven days to trade or release the player. Beaty, who started 20 games in left field and eight in right field last season, will be given a chance to challenge switch-hitter Jurickson Profar for significant playing time in left field. Trent Grisham is the starting center fielder, and Wil Myers is in right.
