Padres hope Blake Snell is up to four or five innings by regular season; umpires begin checking hands
The last of the Padres starters to face hitters this spring did so Saturday, as Blake Snell worked the equivalent of two innings in a live batting practice.
“I’m where I need to be,” Snell said after his turn on the mound. “I’m going at the pace my body needs to go at.” Snell used his change-up just 10 percent of the time last season, about half as much as in previous seasons. He repeatedly said the pitch was in “timeout” last season because it was not behaving correctly, and he threw the change-up just five times in his final 743 pitches.
