Irving Mayren-Guzman, of Egg Harbor Township, ran from Centerfolds Caberet early on Jan. 22 and was found dead days later.

The suit states Mayren-Guzman was allowed to enter the club even though state law forbids entry to those under 21 if the establishment sells alcohol. Once inside, Mayren-Guzman was told he had to purchase a minimum of $25 worth of drinks. The suit alleges that club employees escorted a heavily intoxicated Mayren-Guzman out of the club at 3:30 a.m., even though they “observed that Irving was not properly dressed for the harsh winter environment.”
Mayren-Guzman fled the property without his cellphone or jacket “for fear of his personal safety and well-being,” the suit states. His body was found Jan. 25 just east of the club in wetlands surrounding the building, the lawsuit states. In addition, the lawsuit states the wetlands surrounding the club should have been protected with a barrier to keep people out. The family is seeking a jury trial, along with unspecified monetary damages. The city, which previously said the club has spurred significant police activity over the years, revoked Centerfolds Cabaret’s mercantile license, which it needs to operate. The license had been suspended since early February ahead of Wednesday’s hearing.
