Much of this time was also spent doing research on our own and seeking outside psychological evaluations — and pushing to ensure these evaluations were covered by our health insurance . I am one of those intending to vote against it. As a city, we have the unprecedented audacity and arrogance to think that we should pass something that directly affects those outside of the McKinney limits. The unreported fear when you read social media is that even if the “no” votes are victorious, we cannot trust that our city government will let that stand.
To answer the question raised, “Why have we not implemented military-based security at our schools?” The answer is the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which forbids it.The letter writer who suggested using the military to protect children at schools, private and public, may be sincerely concerned about the constant threat of violence for our school children. Most of us, however, do not want a military state.
