Ser Criston Cole has gone from fan-favorite to quite possibly most hated after HouseOfTheDragon episode 5's brutal ending. Check out some of the relations here:
Warning! Spoilers ahead for House of the Dragon season 1, episodes 4 & 5.Although Ser Criston Cole was well-liked in earlier episodes, House of the Dragon fans have now turned on the character after the end of episode 5. Taking place nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, HBO's House of the Dragon chronicles the onset of the Targaryen civil war after King Viserys names his daughter, Rhaenyra , heir to the Iron Throne.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY After Cole bonds with Rhaenyra over the course of episode 3, episode 4 sees Rhaenyra entice the faithful knight into sleeping with her, thus breaking his oath as a member of the Kingsguard. House of the Dragon's most recent episode, however, makes clear that the two characters have different feelings when it comes to the future of their relationship, with Rhaenyra shutting down Cole's pleas to run away together.
Although Rhaenyra did clearly abuse her power over Cole, House of the Dragon episode 5 makes clear that the Lord Commander has some deep-seated rage issues. Many fans have taken issue with the fact that Cole's victim is ultimately completely innocent, with Cole's actions triggered by Joffrey's quiet acknowledgment that he knows about his and Rhaenyra's illicit affair.
As Game of Thrones demonstrated time and time again, characters who make rash or unwise decisions typically pay the price in a brutal fashion. Although Cole seemingly lives to fight another day after the events of House of the Dragon episode 5, it's unclear what the consequences of his actions will be and whether he will meet his end because of it, as so many fans seem to think is fair.
