HouseOfTheDragon's Ser Criston Cole actor, Fabien Frankel, teases his character's future on the GameOfThrones prequel after episode 5's twist: 'Criston Cole I believe, will become a very integral part of the Dance of the Dragons.'
Fabien Frankel teases Ser Criston Cole's future on House of the Dragon following episode 5's shocking twist. Based on A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood, which tells the history of House Targaryen, House of the Dragon begins roughly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones during a time of relative peace when the seeds to a war of succession are first sown.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Early on, Rhaenyra admires the dashing Dornish Knight, Ser Criston, as he defeats her uncle Daemon during a tourney and later handpicks him to be a member of the Kingsguard and her own personal protector, marking the beginning of the romantic tensions between the two. The Princess soon seduces Ser Criston and causes him to break his vow of celibacy.
He's very much set up as one thing, and as the show goes on, changes a great deal. That was what was exciting to me. He's very much set up as a noble, well-meaning knight there to protect Rhaenyra. And for those who've read the book, he isn't that by any means. I f---ing love that, in a week's time, the audience is gonna very much change their opinion of him.
In his comments, Frankel references House of the Dragon's source material, Fire & Blood. In the book, Criston actually kills Joffrey during a jousting tournament instead of with his bare hands at a celebratory feast, making the show's version of events much more graphic and shocking. This was especially surprising given how, early on, Ser Criston was characterized as the prototypical honorable knight, which changed in earnest very quickly.
Criston's interaction with Alicent at the end of House of the Dragon episode 5 provides a small tease for where his story is headed. After saving his life, the Knight will likely feel indebted to the Queen, compelling Criston to side with his savior and her son, Prince Aegon, and against Rhaenyra in the upcoming war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Whatever lies ahead, Criston Cole will surely play a pivotal in upcoming episodes of House of the Dragon airing every Sunday night on HBO.
