Gahanna's Diore Hubbard, Bloom-Carroll's Andrew Marshall and East coach Mike Bell earned top honors on the 2022 Dispatch All-Metro football team.
“I was really surprised,” Hubbard said. “It wasn’t really one of my goals. There are people playing ball putting up crazy numbers next to mine, so to be named one of the best players out there is a great accomplishment.”The honors for Hubbard, which also included him being named co-Player of the Year in the OCC-Ohio Division, helped him earn the distinction of being named the Offensive Player of the Year on the Dispatch’s All-Metro team.
“I’m proud of what he’s done, and the beautiful thing is that he knows there’s a lot he can get better at,” Lions coach Bruce Ward said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for him.”After rushing for 954 yards and 12 touchdowns last fall as the Lions went 7-3, Hubbard helped Gahanna snap a 15-game losing skid against Pickerington Central with a 22-20 win Sept. 16.
“It means a whole lot to me and my guys,” Hubbard said. “We wanted to turn the tables and really shock the world with Gahanna football. Gahanna football hasn’t meant anything to anybody, because we haven’t done anything for the longest time. We put us on the map and showed people Gahanna is here for the long .”
The 6-3, 220-pound Marshall, a Kent State commit, recorded 206 tackles, 35.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks and nine pass breakups. He also rushed for 1,099 yards and 14 touchdowns on 164 carries. Bell completed his third season by guiding the Tigers to a 10-2 record after they had gone 1-5 in 2020 and 3-4 last year.
