Police crackdown targets cocaine coming from South America through Dutch ports and leads to arrests in Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Spain and UAE
Police have dismantled a massive drugs "super-cartel" that controlled a third of Europe's cocaine trade, arresting 49 people in various countries, including six chief suspects in Dubai, the European Union's police force has said.
The agency said police forces involved in “Operation Desert Light" targeted both the “command-and-control centre and the logistical drugs trafficking infrastructure in Europe." Europol said Dubai had arrested two "high-value" suspects linked to France, two connected to the Netherlands and another linked to Spain.
One of the suspects was a 37-year-old man with dual Dutch and Moroccan nationality, who was held for allegedly importing thousands of kgs of cocaine into the Netherlands in 2020 and 2021. Taghi is accused of running a huge Amsterdam-based cocaine smuggling group and faces multiple charges, including murder.
