Daliland tells the true story of Salvador Dali's chaotic relationship with his wife and muse Gala, but the reality was more turbulent still.
In the movie Daliland, the indulgent, scandalous lifestyle of famed surrealist painter Salvador Dalí and his wife Gala is explored through the true story of the couple’s 1973 extended stay in New York City. The movie is told through the perspective of young gallery assistant James , who is tasked with ensuring that Dalí, played by Gandhi and MCU star Ben Kingsley, completes his latest work in time for an upcoming show.
Gala became a powerful force in Salvador Dalí’s art and career. She was his muse, inspiring and appearing in several works throughout his career, including a painting that features in Daliland called The Double Image of Gala. Possessing a far stronger mind for business than her husband, Gala fought aggressively on Dalí’s behalf for his rights with gallery owners and buyers.
Dalí The Voyeur A scene in Daliland depicting Salvador Dalí masturbating while watching a threesome is accurate to the true story of the painter’s sexual disposition. Averse to actually participating in sex, Dalí’s voyeurism was a significant part of his marriage and his artistic process. Dalí and Gala were known to have an open marriage, and she carried out numerous extramarital affairs, including one with her ex-husband, Élouard.
