City Section football player of the year Peyton Waters of Birmingham makes college decision, choosing the University of Washington.
He took over for receiver-defensive end Arlis Boardingham, who is now at Florida, to lead Birmingham past Garfield in the City Section Open Division championship game. He figures to play cornerback in college and his continued progress at the position makes him an intriguing prospect.
Waters said he “felt connected” on his official visit to Washington last week. “I felt I could grow academically and athletically,” he said.UCLA appears to have made a late run but didn’t get involved in recruiting Waters until March. He said the Bruins were “very close,” but having waited so long to show interest left Waters wondering if he was a priority in their plans.
