Mariners leadoff man Julio Rodriguez was happy to see third-base coach Manny Acta after tripling off Justin Verlander in the fourth inning of Tuesday's ALDS opener against the Astros.Nine months separate the opening of Minute Maid Park and the birth of Julio Rodriguez, with the Astros’ stadium and the future Seattle Mariners star both first seeing light of day in 2000.
That was one of the handful of nuggets knocked aside in the wake of a dramatic game-winning home run by the Astros’ Yordan Alvarez in the opener of the American League Division Series. Game 2 is 2:37 p.m. Thursday at Minute Maid, with Rodriguez and the Mariners trying to even the series following the Astros’ striking 8-7 comeback victory.
The Mariners in late August rewarded what Rodriguez already has done, and especially for what they hope he will do over the next decade, by signing him to one of the most intricate contracts in history. The deal, which could top out at $470 million, will range from seven to 17 years. It's reliant on multiple options, one guaranteeing $210 million, according to MLB.com.
