Longtime education volunteer Sarah Weinberg and business owner Jimmy Tran are vying for one of Dallas ISD’s most expensive board seats.
The seat represents a doughnut-shaped area throughout much of near-east and North Dallas. After roughly seven years as DISD trustee, Marshall announced in February that he was stepping down.
In the May 6 election, Tran had nearly 40% of the vote, while Weinberg held about 37%. Runoffs occur if no candidate reaches the 50% threshold. If she wins, Weinberg wants to prioritize student outcomes and work to improve students’ literacy levels. Weinberg previously highlighted to voters that her experience as a businesswoman, a volunteer and someone who’s sat on other boards makes her the right person for the job.Should he win the election, his top priorities include student safety and outcomes — specifically looking into how to improve third-grade reading levels. He said it’s critical for the district to work on improving such students’ scores, as they’re “a huge predictor of student and life success.
