Four people have died after being hit by drivers at or near Cameron and Market streets within the past 16 months, including a 36-year-old woman struck last week.
The intersection at South Cameron Street at Market Street is busy with vehicles and pedestrians.PennDOT is taking steps to improve a stretch of Harrisburg’s heavily-traveled Cameron Street — including an area where four people have been struck and killed in the past 16 months.
But the project isn’t in response to the deaths at or near the intersection. Rather, it is for “preventative maintenance” to Cameron Street between Elmerton Avenue and Paxton Street in advance of a project to expand Interstate 83 in the next several years, according to PennDOT spokeswoman Fritzi Schreffler.
