DC Universe star Zachary Levi seemingly debunks Shazam! recasting rumors online following recent shake-ups at franchise shake-ups. The DCU is heading for massive changes following the launch of DC Studios. With James Gunn and Peter Safran running the newly created studio division, they are now in charge of TV, film, and animation related to the DCU. Their roles went into effect on November 1, as reports have emerged about the future of the DCU.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY With Cavill's time as Superman done in the DCU, the rumor mill has been on fire as reports are coming about other DC actors. Shortly after Gunn debunked rumors about Gal Gadot exiting as Wonder Woman, another DCU star suggested they would be done with the franchise. Levi, who stars as the titular hero in the Shazam! franchise, responded to rumblings about his era supposedly coming to an end.
With the next Superman movie focusing on a younger Clark Kent and his early days in Metropolis, one would assume a complete restart is happening. However, since Gunn has hinted that Gadot may not be done as Wonder Woman, that could bode well for LeviLevi'szam. Even if a straight-on Shazam! 3 installment doesn't happen, Levi could still go on to play the DC hero in the new universe. Despite having implied that Black Adam vs. Shazam was going to happen, that no longer seems to be the case.
While the DCU has been through its ups and downs, 2019's Shazam! did become one of the franchise's biggest standouts. If there are options for Levi to continue portraying him, it would be a big waste for Gunn and Safran not to take that opportunity. According to Gunn, a DCU slate is being eyed for a reveal sometime in 2023, which will clarify what they are doing with the franchise.
