Founded in 1786, by the father of South Jersey-born author James Fenimore Cooper, Cooperstown has plenty to offer visitors.
Surrounded by rolling hills, Cooperstown’s Main Street has an array of restaurants and shops; we especially enjoyed the– a combination gift shop and ice cream parlor. I’m not sure if it is true, but a woman at the store told us that Disney World’s Main Street is modeled after Cooperstown’s – and it could well be: this is the quintessential American Main Street.

In Cooperstown, we enjoyed a 12-mile roundtrip through farmlands and forests along the Susquehanna River. There is a shorter, 8-mile version.
