James McAvoy reveals the Fox X-Men film that he believes is among the best movies of his career. Taking over the role of Professor X from Patrick Stewart for the soft reboot of the X-Men franchise, the actor debuted in the role of Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class and reprised it three more times. Despite the fluctuating quality of the films, McAvoy's performance, alongside the majority of the core cast, has been praised.

Following rumors that he didn't enjoy his time playing young Professor X opposite Michael Fassbender's Magneto and that he only took the job because of money, the actor now addresses those mutterings in a new interview with GQ, emphatically debunking them. To prove it, he even dubbed X-Men: Days of Future Past as one of the best films he has ever starred in.

It's no secret that Fox's X-Men franchise had a lot of issues, especially toward its end with X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. Interestingly, however, the second installments from each timeline were both well-received. X2 is universally loved and is one of the better Marvel films released before the MCU began in 2008. However, X-Men: Days of Future Past is arguably the best from the franchise.
As Marvel Studios absorbs the X-Men into the MCU, it's still unclear whether Fox's iteration will be fully rebooted, or if they will be considered part of the burgeoning multiverse. Unlike the Fantastic Four films, which the public never really had any emotional investment in, fans are actually attached to some aspects of the Fox X-Men franchise, especially with a film as well-made as X-Men: Days of Future Past.
