Ryan has hoped Vance’s skepticism about American intervention in Ukraine could backfire against him, given Cleveland’s significant Ukrainian-American community, and he’s offered it as a possible explanation for how political polls, which currently show Vance holding a narrow lead, could be undercounting Ryan’s support among Republican-leaning voters. Generally, political polls in Ohio have undercounted Republican support in the past several election cycles.
