After being out two weeks with calf injury, veteran could play against Kansas City

He participated in full during the 30-minute portion of practice open to the media, a good sign for his status for Sunday’s game against Kansas City.When asked Thursday how Cooks looked in practice, Hamilton said, “He looked fast.” The Texans need all the help they can get this week as they get set to face the Chiefs at NRG Stadium Sunday. The Texans are already expected to be without leading rusher Dameon Pierce, who suffered a high ankle sprain in last week’s 27-23 loss to the Cowboys. He could potentially miss multiple games.Cooks has had a down season this year.
But despite missing three games this year, Cooks, 29, remains the Texans’ leading receiver. He has 44 catches for 520 yards and a touchdown. The last time he played was on Nov. 27, when he finished with five catches for 59 yards.“He looked good,” tight end O.J. Howard said. “A guy like that, he’s a veteran. It’s kind of like riding a bike to him. Coming off an injury, he’s still going to have the fundamentals he always had and reliable hands.
Wide receiver Nico Collins was not a participant in practice Thursday. He wore a hoodie and stood off to the side during the portion of practice open to the media. Rookie cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. was not seen.
