A carbon dioxide leak led to a brief evacuation at LAX Terminal 8, hospitalizing one worker and making three others ill.
The four individuals who became sick were all employees either in the room or nearby"when a popping sound was heard, and the apparent release of Carbon Dioxide vapor took place."
According to Scott, the man suffered cardiac arrest when the carbon dioxide replaced the oxygen in the room. According to Scott, the man was breathing and his blood was pumping on his own when he was transported. As many as 100 passengers were sent to Terminal 7 after being evacuated from Terminal 8 while the LAFD crew investigated.
The electrical room is subterranean, Scott said, and carbon dioxide is heavier than air, so all the gas would have sunk rather than rising and creating a danger to the other passengers.is on scene investigating the cause of an apparent gas leak in Terminal 8. Passengers are being sent to Terminal 7 for screening and access and Terminal 8 remains closed at this time. Please check with your airline for updates on flights.
