The WonderTwins movie planned for HBO Max has reportedly been cancelled less than a month after casting its two lead roles.

The Wonder Twins movie planned for HBO Max has reportedly been cancelled. In February of this year, DC and Warner Bros. green-lit a live-action movie based on The Wonder Twins, the characters introduced in the Superfriends animated series from the 1970s. The film was set to be written and directed by Adam Sztkiel, who was one of the writers of the upcoming Black Adam film, and was set to be released on the HBO Max service.

Recently the Wonder Twins movie appeared to be moving along as Riverdale star AJ Kapa and Young Sheldon's Isabel May had been cast in the lead roles. While the news was announced in February 2022, in April 2022, former parent company AT&T sold WarnerMedia to Discovery in a merger that resulted in the creation of Warner Bros. Discovery. A major merger likely meant that changes would be coming at all levels. While much attention has been paid to Warner Bros.

Unlike Ava DuVernay's New Gods film, which was cancelled but never moved past the script stage, canceling Wonder Twins is a bigger shock given that the movie seemed to be making progress with a cast in place. The cancellation of Wonder Twins comes shortly after the report that Warner Bros. Discovery was looking to do a major overhaul of DC movies and TV series.

While there are various DC films currently set for release like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Flash and Blue Beetle all set for theaters , it does raise concerns for other DC properties that have been announced in recent years. Films based on Zatanna, Static Shock, and the Metal Men have all been floated, but no progress has been made on them. The Wonder Twins' cancellation potentially sets these projects up to be scrapped as well.
