She fell approximately half the length of a football field.
The department responded to a report of the fall at Battery Spencer along Conzelman Road in Sausalito at 5:11 a.m.
Golden said the woman was with two other people who walked over fencing constructed of railroad ties and chicken wire and sat along the cliff edge. "When they went to get up, she slipped and fell," he said."There's a reason why there's some fencing up there, we just really can't express enough to people that they really need to be very careful when they're on those cliffs. The ground is unstable and they need to stay back."
Golden said the fencing is easy to step over and he thinks that a more significant barrier hasn't been constructed due to"aesthetic reasons." The individual was rescued by firefighters with a rope system and transported to Marin General Hospital, the department said.
