The road Alice Wilson followed from her St. Charles home to downtown Elgin wasn’t paved in gold bricks, but it did take her to Gail Borden Public Library’s Wizard of Oz Educational Exhibit, where her personal collection of Oz memorabilia is on display.
Wilson lent the exhibit about 375 pieces from the 1,000 or so she’s collected since receiving a Tin Man heart clock as a gift from a friend 35 years ago.The exhibition debuted at the Miami Children’s Museum in 2010. It’s been to more than 20 cities since then, opening in Elgin at the end of April.It includes two dozen reproductions of “Wizard of Oz” movie props and set pieces, including a replica pair of Dorothy’s ruby slippers.

“I was having a garage sale, and a woman noticed all the ‘Wizard of Oz’ items. She told me about the exhibit at the library,” Wilson said.
