Birmingham police investigate a homicide at Lynn Park at 82nd Street and Fourth Avenue North in Birmingham. A woman was found slain Friday morning at East Lake Park’s tennis courts.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was found under the overhang of the tennis courts clubhouse at Lynn Park, which is part of East Lake Park. Fitzgerald said she had been shot. It wasn’t immediately clear when the fatal shooting took place. The only Shot Spotter call in that area was almost 24 hours earlier, and Fitzgerald said it’s unlikely the victim had been there that long without being spotted.The woman is Birmingham’s 68th homicide this year. Of those, six have been ruled justified and therefore aren’t deemed criminal. Another was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency.
An editing error was corrected at 10 a.m. It is unlikely the victim was killed a day before the body was found.
