“We’ll be having competitions for breeds including American bully, French bulldog, and English bulldog,” said Nestor Solis, Winter Bullyland organizer.
Competitors line up to vie for the title of Best Merle Frenchie at a bulldog show organized last year by breeders Nestor Solis of Aurora and Agustin Martinez of Chicago. The friends will host Winter Bullyland Dec. 17 at the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles.The Aurora resident grew up around dogs and always wanted to have a dog that would have puppies.“I just didn’t know what dog I wanted growing up,” he said.
While there’s a variety of categories in the competition, which starts at 2 p.m., it’s the best in the three breeds that will ultimately compete for best in show. A panel of three judges will decide the winners. “I feel like society as a whole, they tend to look at those breeds like it has a negative connotation. We just want to make sure that we’re showing that these dogs aren’t, from what I feel society looks at them as, aggressive,” Solis said.
There are even a few competition categories that are open to all breeds, he said. Those include the “Iciest Dog,” aka best dressed, and crowd favorite.
