The area is now part of the Thundergut Pond Wildlife Management Area in Alloway, Salem County.
A wildfire was burning Thursday afternoon at a former Salem County golf course, according to the the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, which has sent crews to the area., now managed as part of the Thundergut Pond Wildlife Management Area in Alloway, the service said.A wildfire is an uncontrolled fire burning the different types of vegetation that cover the land and is considered major when it exceeds 100 acres, the service said.
The 18-hole, semi-private golf course, which sits on Alloway-Friesburg Road, officially closed on Dec. 31, 2017 and later became state property.
