Social no-distancing on the beach is back — but not so big a lure for San Antonio spring breakers

Edward A. Ornelas /San Antonio Express-NewsSpring break is here for most colleges and universities in San Antonio, but many students say priorities have changed after two years of pandemic — what was once the time to get wild on the beach is now a mix of fun, family, rest and work.

For Driggers, who said she’s never really been drawn to the traditional beach bacchanal, the pandemic added another reason to avoid wild parties. And she is not alone. Isla Grand Beach Resort was 97 percent occupied, much improved from last year — but before the pandemic, spring break meant 100 percent, said a front desk worker who asked for anonymity because of the hotel’s media policy. Other hotels on the island reported being anywhere from 50 percent to 70 percent full.
