Republicans will only lose if they try to fight Biden's nominee. But some are calculating they could win in a different arena if they let things go smoothly.

There are, to be sure, other factors in play whenever a new Supreme Court nominee comes forth. Political groups both left and right often try to gin up controversies and then raise funds from their respective bases.
