Payton II wrote a letter to Warriors fans Friday detailing his journey with the organization.
Payton is slated to hit free agency this offseason, but even if he’s unable to return to the Warriors amid their playoff run, Steph Curry is already pressuring Myers to bring Payton back next season.
Before Memphis guard Dillon Brooks committed a hard foul against Payton in Game 2 of the conference semifinals that resulted in an ejection for Brooks and the elbow injury for Payton, the journeyman guard and son of a Hall of Famer had emerged as one of Golden State’s most consistent players and was even tabbed to start playoff games.
“I give Dillon a lot of credit for that — no text, no social media, nothing indirect,” Payton wrote. “He came in person, and we talked like grown men. He told me he didn’t mean to hurt me. I believe him.”
