Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Defense Minister to close off the Mariupol steel plant after scrapping plans to storm it. Here's why, according to a retired military official.

"They spent the night in Berdiansk and are now heading to Vasylivka," Vereshchuk said in a statement on Telegram.The co-commander of one of the Ukrainian units encircled in the port said the city remains under heavy bombardment.
