The Giants are 7-for-8 (88%) when squaring up to bunt this season. That success rate isn’t sustainable, but the Giants don’t care.

“It’s not always designed to just get a base hit, though that’s definitely important,” Kapler said. “It’s sometimes designed to have the defense change their positioning and open up holes. … We are going to bunt into outs.

… Sometimes we’re going to fall behind in counts, 0-1 and 0-2, trying to put that bunt down. That’s the most important time to stay the course. … It’s really important to take the long view and recognize that the batting average on those balls is going to be good because we’re going to be doing it when the defense gives it to us.”
