Gabrielle Union says the delays for the BringItOn sequel with the original cast are due to the lengthy process of developing a movie.
Over two decades after the release of the successful teen cheerleading film Bring It On, Gabrielle Union explains why there has yet to be a sequel developed featuring the original cast. The film follows two fictitious rival high school cheer squads preparing for a national competition, a narrative that gained its cult classic status by offering a humorously subversive depiction of the intensity and interpersonal complications involved in competitive high school cheerleading.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Speaking to Variety, Gabrielle Union explains why a sequel to Bring It On with the same production team and the cast has yet to be developed. Union confirms that she has been in talks to join a sequel while alluding to the often unpredictable process of getting a film greenlit. Check out what she had to say below:
"We’ve been developing a sequel forever. But for folks who don’t exactly understand how long development can take in Hollywood, that could be five minutes or 50 years."Will A Bring It On Sequel With The Original Cast Ever Happen While it remains hopeful that a direct Bring It On sequel features the original characters, the cheerleading comedy's cast members have gone down very different paths in the 23 years since the film's release.
Despite the amount of time that has passed since the release of Bring It On, many of the actors are also hopeful they will get to revisit the absurdity and intensity of the Toros and Clovers cheer squads in an eventual sequel. In 2020, just weeks after Union and Dunst both confirmed their interest in a Bring It On sequel at a panel, Union shared on The Late Late Show with James Corden that a sequel with the original movie's cast will happen.
What Gabrielle Union Is Doing Next Since her career breakout in Bring It On, Union has remained a household name by starring in numerous projects, but in recent years, she mostly appeared in family-oriented films and series, including the Disney remake of Cheaper By The Dozen. This trend in Union's career is set to only continue with her return to The Proud Family in its sequel series, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.
