Annual challenge encourages families to find miniature coyotes hidden in different places at all 36 branches in the city
An annual family-friendly scavenger hunt patterned after the popular “Where’s Waldo?” stories opens Saturday at San Diego’s public libraries.
The month-long challenge asks participants to locate a miniature Odi the Coyote figure at the city’s 36 branches. Odi is the library’s mascot, adopted in 2022. The initials in the mascot’s name stand for opportunity, discovery and inspiration.Participants can pick up a free “Where’s Odi” passport at any library branch and get it stamped for each Odi they spot. They will also receive a button designed for each branch.
Several prizes are being offered, including a $200 gift card to the Library Shop in the downtown Central Library. Participants who complete the challenge by finding all 36 Odis will be entered in a raffle for the gift card.Last year, more than 200 people visited all the library branches during the challenge, and more than 11,000 buttons were handed out. Each button represents a library visit.
Started in 2017 and initially named after Waldo — a sweater-wearing cartoon character hidden among crowds in various places — the Odi contest is one of the library system’s most popular programs, officials said.
