As CNN CEO Chris Licht approaches one year in the job, his morning show is now in flux with Don Lemon's termination, and the 9 PM hour is still without a permanent solution.
, the third host of the six-month old program—and 17-year veteran of the network—had been fired after’s statement, in which he said Lemon “will forever be a part of the CNN family. We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”with Licht. “We wish him the best,” she said, noting Lemon was “one of the first anchors at CNN to have me on his show,” something she said she will “never forget.” Harlow added that Lemon was one of her "first friends here at CNN.
While Harlow and Collins were diplomatic in their handling of the news, Lemon had been anything but on Monday. “After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly,” Lemon said in a on Twitter, in which he wrote he was “stunned” to learn from his agent “that I have been terminated by CNN.” CNN’s communications team was quick to challenge that account in a subsequent tweet of their own:
