For all the people wondering if would ever be built, a date is set for the groundbreaking for Buc-ee’s new travel center on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The day is less than a month away — on Sept. 13 — at the site near Pass Christian. Harrison County Supervisors and other local leaders will be invited to attend the ceremony at 11 a.m. “Harrison County is a vibrant community with five thriving cities and stunning beaches,” said Stan Beard of Buc-ee’s. “It’s perfectly situated along I-10 between our Texas and Alabama stores and we can’t wait to be the best place to stop on the Mississippi Coast.”
Buc-ee’s will bring at least 200 full-time jobs to South Mississippi, the company said, with starting pay beginning well above minimum wage, along with full benefits, a 6% matching 401k and three weeks of paid vacation.The travel centers are known for being huge, and this location will be a massive 74,000 square feet, with 120 fueling pumps and 24 EV charging stations.
“Buc-ee’s favorites including Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries will all be available,” the company said in a press release.The company was founded in Texas in 1982 and has 46 stores across Texas and the South. It’s now expanding west with groundbreakings in Colorado and Missouri.
