Crews responding to chemical plant fire in Wharton County
Multiple fire departments on Tuesday night were fighting a large chemical plant fire Wharton County.
The fire was reported at the Prime Eco Group, Inc. facility in the 2900 block of state Highway 60, according to a Facebook post from the office of Wharton County Constable Precinct 2. At 11:40 p.m., the Wharton Volunteer Fire Department reported the fire was 90 percent contained. The chemicals on fire included hand sanitizer and fuel stabilizers, according to the fire department.
The Wharton Police Department said the fire damaged one building and that there were no reported injuries. The police department asked people who live near to fire turn off their air conditioning units and shelter in place until the all-clear is given.
