A member of the city’s Housing and Homelessness Solutions Committee, Moreno said he approves of the efforts made on that issue so far, but that “it’s too slow. As a small business owner, I’m used to expediency and I expect results,” he said. He praised the city for closing a loophole that allowed homeless camps to persist, but he also acknowledged that City Hall must facilitate more housing construction by making it easier to build.
In addition to Deep Ellum, District 2 includes Oak Lawn, the Cedars, Dallas Love Field and parts of downtown. The proposed redesign of Interstate 345 would go through part of this district. Moreno said he wants to see a study of various options for that highway from an independent agency. He said the Texas Department of Transportation, which has provided all the data for the project so far, is focused on building highways, not connecting neighborhoods.
Moreno’s challenger, Sukhbir Kaur, 51, is a newcomer to Dallas politics and a relative newcomer to the district, having moved from Euless three years ago. She works as a customer service representative.
