UPDATE | A man is dead after firing at IMPD officers, injuring two, with an assault-type rifle on the city's east side. A second person is in custody after fleeing.
IMPD confirmed the officers were shot on the east side following a brief pursuit.
The officers, according to IMPD Assistant Chief of Police Chris Bailey, are members of the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force. At this time, the driver of the vehicle exited and began shooting at officers with an assault-type rifle.
