One VFX artist freaks outs while roasting a 2000s cult horror comedy film, Eight Legged Freaks, and its CGI spiders during various scenes.

One VFX artist freaks out while roasting the CGI spiders in Eight Legged Freaks. The horror comedy premiered in 2002 and follows residents of Prosperity, Arizona, who find that various spiders have become exposed to toxic chemicals, causing them to grow in size. Despite mixed reactions, the film has developed a strong fanbase over the years. It also features a cast that includes Scarlett Johansson and David Arquette, among others.

During Corridor Crew's recent video, VFX artists looked at scenes from Eight Legged Freaks and shared their reactions to the CGI used. In one sequence involving a bike chase, they poked fun at the animation, but added that some of the shots were well-made. When it came to his actual fear of spiders though, Wren appeared uneasy at the mall scene, where they crawled through a hole in the exterior and attacked one of the gates.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Do Eight Legged Freaks' Spiders Hold Up? As the Corridor Crew discussed, some of the CGI used to create spiders in Eight Legged Freaks is noticeable, and certain moments could be more effective than others. However, depending on the audience, the movie might still be able to induce fear.

The spiders in Eight Legged Freaks can be seen as scary simply due to their size, and while giant arachnids have been depicted on-screen many times, the 2002 film uses a variation. Other notable scenes from the movie include when Mike first spotted one of the creatures, and when a jumping spider landed on top of Deputy Peterson's car. Eight Legged Freaks also featured a tarantula, which attacked a number of characters and flipped the trailer they were in.

Since its release, audiences seem to enjoy the humor and use of spiders in Eight Legged Freaks. It is interesting to see how VFX artists react to the movie's CGI, and how even if some of it is outdated, it can still be creepy. Given the film's premise, it is worth wondering if a reboot will ever get made, and how much more terrifying and realistic the creatures could appear then.
