An already crucial Golden State Warriors offseason just got a little more difficult after forward Draymond Green, a core member of the franchise’s recent dynasty, is expected to decline his player option for next season and enter unrestricted free agency.
Some might find Monday’s news surprising. Green likely would struggle to find a contract on the open market with an average annual value that would rival what he could have earned under his player option with the Warriors next season. Dunleavy, who on Friday was named Myers’ successor, won’t have much of an acclimation period. The NBA draft, in which the Warriors have the No. 19 pick, is Thursday. A week later, Green is expected to become a free agent.
