Virginia will get rid of a college requirement for its state job postings beginning on July 1. Gov. GlennYoungkin said it was one change that will lead to 'reimagining workforce solutions in government.'

Beginning July 1, applicants with no college experience will be considered equal to college-graduated applicants. Gov. Glenn Youngkin said it was one change that will lead to"reimagining workforce solutions in government."“This landmark change in hiring practices for our state workforce will improve hiring processes, expand possibilities and career paths for job seekers and enhance our ability to deliver quality services," Youngkin said in a statement.

Secretary of Administration Margaret “Lyn” McDermid called the change"a smart business practice." Virginia state agencies advertise an average of over 20,000 job listings annually."We are also working hard to examine regulated occupations and professions to find ways to simplify and speed up credentialing processes and universal licensing recognition for individuals who want to live and work in Virginia,” Secretary of Labor Bryan Slater said.

Virginia state code already prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of age, race, color, religion, national origin, sex, pregnancy, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or military status.
