“What’s up, coach?” Wembanyama said with a smile as he was handed the phone in a short video posted by the Spurs. The soon-to-be NBA superstar looked like he barely could contain himself during the conversation, showing off a little of his French before telling Popovich, “I can’t wait.”Wembanyama went No. 1The 7-foot-4 center was plenty hyped heading into the draft, as he became the 14th international player to be picked at No. 1 in the NBA Draft.
Wembanyama had played the last three seasons at the highest level of professional basketball in France for Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A.
