“Issues of self-defense have been raised' in a fatal shooting on Sept. 24 in Tuscaloosa, law enforcement officials said. The case will be presented to a grand jury to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
Joseph Baskins, 36, of Tuscaloosa, was found fatally shot around 11 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Eighth Avenue N.E. at River Road Apartments, said Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office’s Violent Crimes Unit on Friday.
On Thursday, Kennedy said most of the key witnesses and evidence have been located and reviewed. “Issues of self-defense have been raised in this case,’’ Kennedy said. Once the investigation is completed, the findings will be presented to a grand jury to determine if criminal charges will be filed. Anyone who witnessed the deadly shooting or has information and has not been contacted by investigators is encouraged to authorities at 205-464-8690.
