“We’re looking at Griffin Sander as No. 2 right now. It’s a really close competition with Griffin, Mustapha Yekini and Jake Farrell. It’s going to be an ongoing competition throughout the year because those guys are so close.”The Huskies have a stable of star receivers led by their two 2023 CFL draft picks at that position, Daniel Perry, who was also named a U Sports first-team all-Canadian, and Caleb Morin.
“All four of those guys we have the utmost confidence in giving the ball to,” Flory commented. “As a play caller, you got to find ways to get them all on the field.”The O-line features a couple changeovers from last year after two all-stars, Dayton Black and Austin Haas, did not return. Black is with the Hamilton Ticats.
“Reece will be playing nose guard,” noted Flory. “He should be an impact player. He’s doing very, very well making the transition from junior football to university. I think we’ve got a lot of veteran guys there. I mean even Reece coming over — he’s been out of high school for his third year out. He played two years of junior, was in all-Canadian at junior, so he’ll make that transition. We’re pretty happy there and excited for their potential.
