UPDATE: Uvalde CISD Superintendent Hal Harrell to retire as district suspends entire police force
Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Supt. Dr. Hal Harrell speaks during a news conference to provide an update following the recent school shooting at Robb Elementary, Thursday, June 9, 2022, in Uvalde, Texas. Two teachers and 19 students were killed in the mass shooting.
In an email to staff, Harrell said that board members will “discuss superintendent retirement options and transition” during a meeting on Monday. No timeline was given. New documents released by the Texas Department of Public Safety reveal that Uvalde CISD police officials knew the officer they hired, who previously worked as a trooper and responded to the May 24 massacre, was under investigation.. She was seen on body cam footage saying, “If my son had been in there, I would not have been outside. I promise you that,” CNN reported.
UCISD said currently employed officers will “fill other roles in the district.” DPS troopers will patrol campus and extracurricular activities.
